The Knitting Patch

The Knitting Patch

I've been quite busy since last I blogged. Spinning and Knitting have been in full force.

Here is the lovely yarn that I spun last weekend. I still have a wee little skein to take off the bobbin of this. The yarn is made from Tempted SoySilk Wool. I'm guessing that I was able to spin about 250 yards of this, enough for maybe a cowl of sorts.

While on the train to and from work, I like to work on socks. Here are the Sunflower socks in progress. I'm just about to turn the heel and work up the leg. I rarely work on these anywhere else but the train, so progress has been slow going.

Today was a work day for me and aside from the one call I received at 5:15 PM today, it was a very quiet day. I took advantage of that and worked on Mom's Shawl. I'm about two skeins in and will probably work one or two more into it before binding off.

It's a funny thing with this shawl. It's quite easy, but not easy enough that I can't pay attention. When I was doing the right side rows, I needed quiet and I found myself saying the pattern aloud as I was knitting it. The wrong side rows were knit, so I could do whatever. Do you find yourself doing quirky things while knitting to keep your place?
I've got the rest of the weekend off and no big plans except to go to Costco on Sunday. I think I will be knitting and spinning some more. I'm trying to decide which fiber I should spin next. I may have to play a game of eenie meenie miney moe and see which one wins out.
Until next time, have a great night and happy knitting and spinning!!!!

Spinning Saturday

Behold the Tempted Yumminess blend of Soy/Silk

I spun all day (well, since about 11:15 or so this morning and finished at 7 this evening) and here's the first bobbin complete

Hopefully I can complete the second one on Sunday. Right now, my hands are getting a well deserved rest.

Have a great night everyone and Happy Knitting and Spinning!!!!

Finished Spinning

This is 4 oz of Knitterly Things BFL in Bouquet. I had two ounces spun on the first bobbin and a little less than the two ounces on the second. The reason being is that where I'm still so new at spinning, I was spinning a more consistent yarn on the second two ounces. I had a feeling that it was way more than the first so I stopped. I then plied the two together.

Must remember some type of gloves next time to prevent possible yarn burn. I'm guessing about 140 yards or so. I know that the more I do it the better it will get. Trying to decide which of my pretty braids to spin next.

On the knitting front, I sadly frogged Girasole, but will be putting back on the needles very soon. Something just didn't feel right about it from the end of Chart C on and thought that it would be easier just to start over than to tink back a few thousand stitches.

I finished Mom's Diamond Gansey Socks. Typical me, forgot to get a picture of Mom wearing them. Mom has also decided that I'm only allowed to make her socks out of Malabrigo. Smart Woman!!!!

I started the Sunflower Socks and they are coming along and I'm also patiently awaiting a shipment from Numma Numma to start a fall sweater; a gorgeous Celtic cabled hoodie.

That's all for now. Stay tuned for my fibery fun!!!! Have a great day and Happy Knitting and Spinning!!!!

I've been doing a lot of knitting as of late. Mom's socks are about 4 repeats from being done and I plan on casting on a new pair immediately after.

I've put the shawl aside temporarily and have joined the Girasole KAL with other Loopy Groupies. I'm so enjoying this pattern. It's my first shawl in the round and love that I can see progress so quickly. This is through chart B and I'm half way through chart C as I type.

The yarn is Malabrigo Sock in the Solis colorway. I'm knitting on a size 6 needle. I'm already wanting to knit a second Girasole, but this time, I want to knit the blanket. I'll have to decide on a yarn to use. Something washable. Something soft. Any ideas?

I'm just about done spinning up the Knitterly Fibers roving and will attempt to ply it soon. I've been reading up on it and asking questions and hopefully it will go well. I'm thinking that I'll be spinning up some Tempted roving next.

I'm going to, with any luck, be on Anne Hathaway overload this weekend. Today, I watched Bride Wars and this evening Rachel Getting Married. Around midnight, I'm getting in the virtual line to see her in Twelfth Night in Central Park. I'll know in the afternoon on Sunday if I have tickets to the performance. I'll have my fingers and toes crossed.

Time to go back to Girasole. Have a great night everyone and Happy Knitting and Spinning!!!

My knitting mojo has temporarily been sidelined this past week by a nasty cold. I really thought that I would have been half way through sock number two by now. Instead, my head has been in the clouds from all the Mucinex-D and cough medicine so that I can sleep. I fall asleep on the train rather than knit my entire morning commute. Pretty sad.

That being said, I'm feeling better and the mojo is returning and I'm getting back on track. Sock number one should be off the needles Thursday night. I'm guessing two more repeats of the pattern and a cuff should do it.

No progress on the shawls. I'm about 1/2 done with the second 2 ounces of fiber that I have been spinning. I'm also tempted, very tempted to join in on The Loopy Ewe KAL for the Girasole. So much so that the yarn for the project is sitting in my cart at TLE waiting for the purchase to be completed. I thought I'd sleep the weekend on it before deciding.

Anyway, this is late for me this week, so I'm off to sleep, don't want a relapse after all. Have a great night everyone and happy knitting and spinning!!!

OK, I'm on a roll, two nights in a row.

As promised, here is my spinning in progress. As I mentioned, it is Knitterly Things BFL in the Bouquet colorway. This is 2 ounces of the 4 ounces that I have.

I'll start the second 2 ounces this weekend and then I'll have to learn how to ply them together. Anyone want to sit down with me?

If it's like when I really grasped the art of spinning, you'll have to ply me with a few margaritas. Really!!! I had gone out to dinner with some friends the last night of Spring Fling and had a few drinks. I was feeling good. Ask Wendy. Ask Stacy. Ask anyone who was there. I was toasty.

Anyway, when we got back, I had promised myself that I would sit down with Adrienne and figure out what I was doing wrong with my wheel and why I was fighting with it. Adrienne was wonderful. I was very calmed and with a little help, I was spinning. I was actually spinning. My one thought is that I wouldn't remember what Adrienne taught me due to my toasty feeling. As you can see from the above, I remembered and I sailed on. So thank you Adrienne :-)

Off to sleep - big day at Costco on Saturday and that's a tale for another day.Have a great night everyone and Happy Knitting and Spinning!!!!
